 2018 Preview

Pinson Valley completed the 2017 season with a 15-0 record. Last year Pinson Valley captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 6A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Indians since the 1999 season. The Indians reeled off five straight playoff wins to claim the Class 6A State Championship by defeating Wetumpka at the Alabama Super Seven 31-10 in Auburn.

No team at Pinson Valley ever won more games in a season than the fifteen victories last year. The 609 points scored by the Indians last year were a team record in a single season. The Indians hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Nix saw improvement as they won fifteen games following a 8-4 record in 2016.

The high-scoring Pinson Valley offense ranked 14th in the AHSAA. They averaged 40.6 points a game.

The Indians defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 51st in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 14.9 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Indians have gone 23-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Pinson Valley has gone a combined 64-32. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Pinson Valley has managed to compile a record of 148-117. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 6A and 128th in the AHSAA.

The Indians are led by head coach Patrick Nix who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 15-0 record in his first season at Pinson Valley. The Indians saw improvement from a 8-4 record the season before coach Nix arrived. Under his direction the Indians have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Nix. Coach Nix led Pinson Valley to a state championship in 2017.

Coach Nix's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 43-18 (70.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Nix's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won two region championships.

The Pinson Valley Indians will play in Class 6A region six during the 2018 season. The Indians have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 73-36 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 6A and 7th in the AHSAA. Pinson Valley will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

Region six will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season.

The Indians enter the 2018 season riding a 15 game winning streak. They have also won 12 consecutive regular season games. Pinson Valley has won 11 consecutive region games. They have won 9 straight games on their home turf at Willie Adams Stadium. The Indians should be considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Indians are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Indians have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2009 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Indians open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Hoover on Saturday, August 25 at Regions Park. Last year the Hoover Buccaneers finished with an overall record of 11-3 and in second place in Class 7A region three. The Buccaneers won the Class 7A State Championship last season when they defeated McGill-Toolen by a score of 48-20 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn.

This will be the second meeting between Pinson Valley and Hoover on the football field. The Indians have a 0-1-0 record against the Buccaneers. They last met in with
